The starting grid of the Singapore Grand Prix opens, as in Monza, with the Ferrari issue #55 by Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard will sprint ahead of everyone, with George Russell's Mercedes next to it. The Englishman missed out on pole position by just +0.072, but in today's race he wants to rely on his excellent race pace shown during Friday's free practice. The other Ferrari opens the second row, that of Leclerc, followed by Lando Norris's McLaren which will somehow try to join the Ferrari-Mercedes party.
A top ten full of unpredictability!
Fifth position for Hamilton. Sir Lewis didn't particularly shine in yesterday's qualifying, but fifth place is still a good starting point, even if overtaking in Singapore is certainly not easy. Next to him an incredible Kevin Magnussen who reaches the top ten together with teammate Hulkenberg in ninth. Haas has a great opportunity ahead of them: they need to finish in the top ten to try to lift a manufacturers' ranking that is not the best. Between the two drivers of the American team a disappointing one Alonso, seventh, and Esteban Ocon's Alpine. Closing out the top ten is an excellent Liam Lawson.
The big surprise on the starting grid
In a sensational way, in eleventh position we find Max Verstappen. The Dutchman has never got to grips with his RB19 since free practice on Friday and, following a dominated season and ten victories in a row, the eleventh seems to be very far away. Twelfth place instead for Pierre gasly, followed by the other Red Bull, that of Perez, and by a Alexander Albon who has never really got on the ball since the start of the weekend.
At the bottom of the grid, with an absence
Fifteenth position for Yuki Tsunoda, less convincing than his teammate. Valtteri next to him Bottas with an Alfa Romeo which, despite the Ferrari engine, was unable to confirm the tenth position in FP2. Seventeenth place for an unlucky Piastri, the first of the upgrades fitted only to Norris' MCL60, with Sargeant at his side. Closing the rankings are Guanyu Zhou with Lance Stroll who is not will take part in the GP following the strong impact he had against the wall in qualifying.
Everything ready for the GP
The anticipation rises in the Singapore night. At 14.00 pm the traffic lights go out, for a GP in which – at least this time – the winner is not really that obvious.
