“I think Kimi is a fantastic driver. He will come to F1 in the future without a doubt." As George Russell, who spoke during the press conference on Monaco GP, on the possibility of having Kimi Antonelli as a teammate for next season. The Mercedes driver spoke about the Italian, explaining how, should the opportunity arise to have him on the team, he would welcome him without any kind of problem. “He is one of our junior drivers and, like I did, being able to climb the team hierarchy would be a great opportunity. As I said I would welcome anyone into the team, it's not a problem for me“. Touching, however, on the topic of the weekend in Monaco, Russell said that Mercedes needs to do more: “The car – he explained – is balanced here during the lap. We struggled a lot on tracks with lots of low-speed corners but we made a good step forward. Ferrari and McLaren also for whom we must continue to work. We will bring further updates."

On the difficulties demonstrated by Mercedes at the start of this season, in particular on balancing behavior on low and high speed corners, Russell has no doubts: “We know that we struggled to find the balance between low and high corners: let's try to find him this weekend. We expect to be more competitive." And on the risks that a track like that of the Principality could represent: “Monaco is very demanding: there are various factors that can change the weekend. We need to find the ideal point. There are 3 second margins. We need to find the rhythm and adapt to the conditions, especially the climatic ones, that exist."
