Disappointment for the Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc that, despite the excellent laps in Q3, first saw the pole taken by Russell and Sainz and then the third position by Gasly. For him, tomorrow, the start is on the second row, in fourth position ahead of his two close rivals, Verstappen and Norris.
Disappointment in the words of the Monegasque, he does not explain what happened
After last year, where Charles Leclerc took third place with a magnificent last-lap overtake on Perez, no one expected to see him struggle. Yet it seems something has happened, at least in the first two qualifying sessions, while in Q3 he seemed to have that extra confidence to be able to grab the top positions.
Probably also due to the tyres, with which Ferrari seems to be slightly struggling compared to Mercedes. Of course, it is not a qualification to be thrown away if we consider the position of his teammate Sainz and his rivals in the constructors' championship McLaren and Red Bull.
These are useful points, should it end like this.
Charles Leclerc's words after qualifying for the Las Vegas GP
Charles Leclerc the problem encountered is all in the tires. From what we understand, in fact, in his team radio he communicated, in an inappropriate way, that the latter have "behaved" in an unexpected way.
"What the f***! The tires behaved differently, f***. What happened with the tires? It seemed like sh*t" he began on the radio. Through which, then, he asked for the result, expecting a P7 or even P10. Instead Lumps, simply communicates the position – fourth – without further explanation.
In the interview with sky sports f1, later, he clarified his doubts.
«I never managed to get the tyres up to temperature. It's a shame because on many laps we are very strong and I am very comfortable with the car, but it was a disaster to get the tyres up to temperature. Carlos he could do it while I never could.»
"It's disappointing. I tried to work on that but I never found the right way. FP1, FP2 and FP3 we did good times, but in three or four laps within the session, while Carlos did them straight away and that paid off in Qualifying. I hope that tomorrow I'll be a bit more in the rhythm in the Race."
"Once again we will have to stay in front as we did in Brazil and as we have done well in the last three weekends, even if it hasn't all gone smoothly due to the conditions. Strange things happen, fourth in front of the McLarens is not a terrible day, but we have to make it happen tomorrow."
