Carlos Sainz, unlike his teammate, managed to complete more laps on the track during the Friday of the Mexican GP. He set the fastest time of the FP2, finishing ahead of Oscar Piastri, Yuki Tsunoda and Charles Leclerc himself.
Mexican GP, Carlos Sainz is the leader of FP2
Carlos Sainz not only did he beat Australian Oscar Piastri, but also championship leader Max Verstappen, who had problems with his car. This result, while good, does not have the feeling of safety that a normal FP session would generate. Pirelli's 2025 tyre tests in fact they have significantly halved the time in which to actually test the tyres for qualifying and race pace.
Those who had given their car to a rookie in the first free practice session had a few more minutes to try the current ones, but despite this, no one managed to beat the time of the driver from Madrid. Also damaged by the red flag caused by the Englishman George Russell.
Sainz's words
"Overall it was a positive day, as I managed to complete the agreed program and work on the balance and set-up, especially in the first session. In the second we had to run with the C4, which allowed us to collect useful data especially in race configuration as regards the pace."
«Tomorrow morning's session will be very important to work towards qualifying because there is certainly room for improvement there, even if today's start was encouraging.»
