Max Verstappen also dominates the Chinese GP. One more race (with the sprint on Saturday)? No problem, the Dutchman wins that too. As is now tradition, the statistics show the reigning world champion breaking records also in the Chinese GP. But we won't just talk about him. Let's take a look back the Chinese GP weekend in ten statistics.
Verstappen steamroller
- Neither Schumacher, nor Vettel, nor Hamilton. Max Verstappen è the only 21st century driver to start the season with five consecutive pole positions (the pole for the sprint does not count in the official statistics). The last one to do it? Mika Hakkinen in 1999.
- With pole for the main race, Verstappen earned his first pole start in the Chinese GP. Now the Dutchman's board counts at least one pole position in 21 different circuits, overtaking Ayrton Senna and Nigel mansell to move into fourth place all-time.
- The only negative note of Verstappen's weekend: the sprint qualification finished in fourth place. Since its introduction last year, Dutch has remained out of the top 3 for the first time. He then did it again on Saturday and Sunday, with a pole and two victories.
Norris, vice-Verstappen of the Chinese GP
- With second place for Lando Norris to divide the Red Bulls of Verstappen and Perez in the main race, for the first time in the season there was not a double.
- Sprint pole in Brazil last year, sprint pole in China on Friday. Norris is the only driver with more than one sprint pole other than Verstappen.
Chinese GP statistics: Leclerc's consistency and Mercedes' difficulties
- With Perez's third place on Sunday, both Red Bulls finished on the podium in China for the first time since 2011.
- Three fourth places and two podiums: Charles Leclerc is the only driver on the grid to finish every race in the top 4 this year.
- The no moment continues for the Mercedes. Despite Hamilton's second place in the sprint, the Brackley team he has not yet finished a GP in the top 4 this year and finished fout of the top 5 in China for the first time in their history.
- Despite a good tenth place achieved, Nico Hulkenberg has joined Andrea de Cesaris at 208 races without a victory.
- Throw Stroll he was probably the worst driver of the weekend, even though his weekend didn't start badly at all. With the first place in FP1, in fact, the Canadian pilot he ended a session in the lead for the second time in his career, after FP2 of the 2020 British GP.
