To the disappointment of Daniel Ricciardo's retirement during the Chinese GP, a penalty is now added: 2 points on his license and the relegation of 3 positions on the grid to be served in the next Miami Grand Prix.
The weekend of the Chinese GP it was a real nightmare for Daniel Ricciardo. During the 27th lap, just after the end of the Safety Car regime, Lance Stroll hit his VCARB as the drivers prepared to resume the race. A block by Fernando Alonso up ahead forced all the cars behind him to brake suddenly, but Stroll did not notice the situation and hit Ricciardo, causing irreparable damage which forced the Australian to withdraw.
A hard blow for the Honey badger who was trying to get into the points for the first time in the 2024 season, but a real disaster for the team too, who shortly before had also had to withdraw the car of his teammate, Yuki Tsunoda, due to contact with Kevin Magnussen's Haas.
Stroll received a 10 second penalty and 2 points on his licence, which many consider insufficient, especially after Fernando Alonso, his teammate, had received only 2 penalty points for an accident during the Sprint race.
“I started to calm down, but then I was told what Lance thinks about the accident. Apparently, I'm an idiot and it was my fault, and that made my blood boil, because it's very clear, and behind a safety car."

Penalty for the Australian: 3 starting positions to be served in Miami
Ricciardo, in addition to the disappointment of the withdrawal, received a penalty from the stewards at the end of the Chinese GP for overtaking Nico Hulkenberg's Haas under the Safety Car.

“Ricciardo admitted that he deliberately overtook Hülkenberg, but explained that he believed he had permission to do so, given that the German driver had overtaken him under the Safety Car on lap 28. However, we observed that Hülkenberg had permission to overtake Ricciardo based on article 55.8. There was no justification for overtaking Hülkenberg under the Safety Car regime. As a result, we gave Ricciardo a 10-second penalty, but as he had to retire, he was given a three-place grid penalty for the next GP he will take part in."
Stewards deducted two points from the Visa Cash App Racing Bulls driver's super license and gave him a three-place grid penalty, to be served during the next Miami Grand Prix.
