Carlos Sainz progresses from one free practice session to the next in Baku, finishing fourth in FP2. He is therefore confident ahead of tomorrow's qualifying.
Baku, free practice for Carlos Sainz
Carlos Sainz closed the FP1 fifth between the two papaya cars. The Spaniard used the softs taking a risk that led him to graze a wall. Fortunately for him and the Ferrari he only got away with a shiver, unlike his teammate who crashed into the barriers.
In the afternoon, however, the Spaniard finished fourth, paying half a second from his teammate. An FP2 in which he did not want to take risks, given a long fact during the long run. Leaving aside the fastest time recorded, the race pace simulation showed how Ferrari is the best single-seater at the moment.
Declarations
A busy Friday: this is how Carlos Sainz described it to the media microphones after FP2 in Baku:
“We had the usual challenging Friday here in Baku, with very little grip at the start and then we found a different and ever-changing track throughout the day. We were about four or five seconds slower than last year and it was tricky to get a good read on the balance of the car.”
Judging by the simulations and the times, like Leclerc, Sainz also says he is confident:
“We managed to make progress from the first to the second session and I’m confident we can continue like this and have a good qualifying tomorrow.”
