Oscar Piastres, starting from second position, managed to conduct an excellent race and winning. He brings – together with his teammate L. Norris – the points to become the leader of the constructors' championship. McLaren, after the Baku GP, is on top of the world, overtaking an anonymous mid-season Red Bull and towing Ferrari behind him.
The words of Piastri, winner of the Baku GP
In his second season in F1, Oscar Piastres removes any doubt about his talent. Excellent defense on Charles Leclerc, not giving in to pressure and error even for a second, leading - perhaps - to make his rival do it, like a true champion.

"At the start I tried to get ahead but once I came out of the DRS there was no pace. After the pit stop we got really close and I felt like I had more grip. I knew I had to attack, if I hadn't done it at the start of the stint, I wouldn't have had any more chances to overtake Charles."
"I took a risk, but I succeeded. I had to manage a lot, I managed to get him out of the DRS for two laps, but it was difficult to take a risk here in Baku. It was a lot of effort but one of the best races of my career."
The Australian driver then commented on the new position in the ranking achieved by the team, overtaking Red Bull and being at the top of the constructors' standings.
"Considering that when I arrived at McLaren we were far behind compared to where we are now, at the top of the world, you have to give great credit to the team and what I have managed to do since I have been here. A few months ago I could not have done what I have done today, without improving. A team victory and I am excited for what is to come."
