Night falls on the Marina Bay track for the second session of the Singapore GP. It seemed almost unthinkable on the eve and instead Ferrari sparks. La Rossa concludes Friday's free practice with the one-two not only in the first free practice session, but also in FP2. The only difference from FP1 is linked to the pilots who reversed their positions: In fact, Sainz had the best performance, followed by teammate Leclerc. If a good morning starts in the morning - or in the evening, one might say - at home Ferrari they are preparing for a very inviting weekend.
Ferrari flies, but Aston and Mercedes are there
He was eagerly waiting for her and let's say that the ring definitely sent him. Let's talk about Fernando Alonso finishing in fourth place. The Spaniard dreams of the coveted 33rd and hopes that the Marina Bay track can be the right track to put an end to Red Bull's dominance. The two-time world champion continues to lead Aston Martin to the top, still considering the enormous efforts of his teammate Stroll fourteenth. Alonso places himself between the two Mercedes, with Russell taking the virtual last step of the podium with third place, while Hamilton ended Friday in fifth position. The star team hopes to recover the points lost in the constructors' championship by Ferrari in the Monza GP and confirms that a good result can be aspired to in Singapore, even if the two Ferraris seem to have much more for now.
Red Bull, what's happening?
With the progress of the season, looking at the standings of the Singapore GP perhaps raises too many doubts. You can actually see them two Red Bulls in seventh – with Perez – and eighth – with Verstappen – position? The answer is yes. The great disappointment of the first day on the Marina Bay track is in fact the dominating team this season. Both Perez and Verstappen never managed to shine, not finding the right feeling with the RB1 either in FP2 or FP19. Horner ultimately declared it: “If I were to get full loot here too, then we could really win them all”, making clear the less than positive feelings of the Milton Keynes team for this weekend. However, it's only Friday and be careful not to underestimate Red Bull too much... and especially Max Verstappen. The two Ferrari-powered cars, divided between Haas and Alfa Romeo, Magnussen and Bottas close the top ten of FP2.
Singapore, so many new features from the teams!
Singapore is a stage for updates. First of all at McLaren, with new features mounted only on Norris's car which placed him in sixth position, clearly ahead of his teammate Piastri in fifteenth. As in Austria - when McLaren used the same tactic - Norris will have the great responsibility in judging the team's updates, which will also be fitted - if the ok comes - in Suzuka on Piastri's car. Important news also from Alpine which concludes a lackluster Friday with thirteenth place for Ocon and eighteenth for Gasly. Updates also in AlphaTauri with Lawson twelfth and Tsunoda sixteenth. At the back of the grid the two Williams with Sargeant and Alexander Albon.
FP2 Singapore concluded, qualifying tomorrow
Thus ends Friday's free practice for the Singapore GP. Tomorrow we get serious about qualifying again, which will be brought forward from FP3 at 11.30 am, scheduled for 15.00 pm.
