La FIA, before the pandemic, had opened the tender for the supply of your shape of urethane F1 to the three-year teams 2025-2027. Applications were due to close on 15st May, but this date has been moved to 16nd June.
Pirelli doesn't have an easy life: Bridgestone is applying
Obviously everyone expects a reconfirmation of Pirelli, which gained a monopoly in this area of F1 many years ago. From Paris, however, the real candidatures have not yet been announced. According to Asian sources, however, there could be a possible competitor: Bridgestone. The Japanese brand, in fact, would have proposed itself to the Federation, with the option to continue also in 2028. In an interview with Motorsport.com, Bridgestone's head of motorsports planning Eiichi Suzuki, did not directly confirm everything, but made it clear: “We are always thinking about what and how we can best deliver our motorsports activities across global categories, including F1. Naturally we are conducting research on these topics”.

But who is Bridgestone? And what does this have to do with F1?
Obviously, nowadays, when we talk about the oriental giant, we immediately think ofIndycar. In fact, the supply of tires is limited to the main category of the USA. But it is worth remembering his parenthesis from 1997 to 2010 during the collaboration with Michelin in the Circus. Furthermore, after the release of the latter in 2006 after the Indianapolis scandal, Bridgestone had to "make do" until Pirelli arrived. A face that is therefore not at all new to the Federation.
An opportunity for F1
In a category where there don't seem to be any real battles to win the world championship and races that are increasingly less engaging, a breath of fresh air would be needed. This would be a great opportunity to change the cards on the table and perhaps make F1 shine again, with the teams having to adapt to a style of tire wear that is totally different from the current one.
