Another Prominent Figure Says Goodbye to the Federation
The news, published on Thursday by the BBC, states that Paul Basarri – compliance officer since 2017 – would have been discharged after “lost confidence” of the FIA President Sulayem. Basarri became known in 2023 because it was he who drew up the report on Ben Sulayem's alleged interference in the races of Jeddah and Las Vegas. Although the president was cleared of this charge by the FIA ethics committee for lack of evidence, friction between him and compliance officer Basarri is said to have continued for months.
Separately to the issue of the Sulayem report, Basarri was also the official who investigated the Lance Stroll's push to his coach Harry Howe after qualifying in Qatar last year. The Piedmontese also investigated over allegations against team boss of F1 to have received confidential information from a FOM employee.

Paolo Basarri fired by FIA President Sulayem
Recent friction has reportedly reached the point where the Italian is suspected of having tried to circumvent some of Sulayem's demands. For the dismissal of the compliance officer, the President must consult the FIA Senate, who must give his consent. Sulayem would have omitted this step, dismissing Basarri immediately.
Paolo Basarri follows Wittich who, just a few days ago, said goodbye to the FIA – paddock rumours say it was a dismissal. The two join a long list of employees who, during Ben Sulayem's term, have left his post.
