Carlos Sainz concluded the first day of Free Practice for the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps with a detailed analysis of the track conditions and performance of the Ferrari SF-24. The day of testing offered several important indications, both for the team and the riders, in light of the new track conditions.
Sainz surprised by the new asphalt in Belgium: "We had to adapt the car"
“This year we found a very different track compared to previous years due to the new asphalt. We had to adapt the car to these new conditions and bumps, but overall the new surface offers much more grip,” said Sainz. The new asphalt surface, laid across much of the length of the circuit, represented a significant variable in the preparation for the race.
Speaking to the media after the second free practice session, Sainz was particularly confident in his race pace. This is in stark contrast to his teammate Charles Leclerc, who instead showed greater confidence in the flying lap. During the race simulation, Sainz proved to be one of the most consistent on the track, a performance that could prove crucial in the fight for the podium.

The unknowns for the race
“We have to keep an eye on tire degradation and the race simulation was an important part of our program on Friday. Tomorrow we will try to focus on maximizing the package we have and qualify as high as possible,” added the Spaniard. This optimism is particularly important in a weekend where Mercedes appear to be in difficulty, offering Ferrari an opportunity to capitalize and get a good result, even if they will have to defend themselves from the aggressive Max Verstappen, penalized by 10 places for the gearbox change. ICE but still determined to move up the rankings quickly.
Weather conditions in Spa, traditionally unpredictable, were relatively stable for much of the day, with persistent clouds but no significant rain after the early hours of the morning. However, tomorrow the situation could reserve more than one surprise.
