It is a Ferrari that does not work. TO Zandvoort anything happens: the rain comes, goes away and then comes back. Despite everything, Max Verstappen always wins, finishing ahead of Fernando Alonso and a super Pierre Gasly. Fifth la Ferrari by Carlos Sainz, with Charles Leclerc who was instead forced to training camp. An absolutely forgettable day for the Monegasque, with the "pit stop" issue still to be clarified. As soon as the rain arrived, Leclerc immediately returned to the pits to fit intermediate tires which however were not yet ready. Pit stop lasting 13 seconds and the race - also considering the contact with Piastri - compromised. Ferrari team principal Frederic explains the performance of the two SF-23s Vasseur, spoke exclusively to Sky Sport F1.
Vasseur: “Charles' pit? Late choice"
How do you rate the Dutch weekend?
“It was a complicated weekend, also considering Charles' retirement. Overall it was a tough weekend for everyone. The conditions were very difficult for everyone. Charles had an initial contact damaging the wing and bottom, which logically we could not change. We were expecting the arrival of a red flag that had not yet arrived and we were forced to withdraw. Carlos, on the other hand, had a good race: the set of intermediates he mounted in the final part of the race had already been used in qualifying but he had a great stint keeping both Lewis and Norris behind. With these conditions you could have done more, but also much worse, which is why I think Sainz did a good job."
Why weren't Leclerc's tires ready for the garage?
"It was a bit of a late decision, but it turned out well even so. We lost ten seconds but we gained more on the track."
Will you be more competitive for Monza?
"I hope. This weekend we saw some ups and downs, but also among other opponents. The margins are so narrow that you can go from second to eighth straight away. We aim to do very well for Monza."
Is the legacy of this car very heavy?
“I don't want to think it's a question of legacy. We have to do the best job we can. Not everything is perfect but we have to keep working, restructure the system and for this we must take a step forward."
