Diego Tondi has been promoted to new head of aerodynamics at Scuderia Ferrari, news announced by the Italian engineer himself via a post on LinkedIn. Tondi, who has a long and consolidated career within the Maranello team, takes on a role of primary importance in the team. This change takes place in a context of technical reorganization, which became necessary after the departure of Enrico Cardile. A reorganization initiated by Frederic Vasseur, team principal of the Scuderia Ferrari in his second year of work.
The situation at Ferrari in full technical reorganization
The recent appointment of Diego Tondi as Ferrari's head of aerodynamics marks an important step in the Scuderia's technical reorganization process. After the departure of Henry Cardile, Frederic Vasseur has undertaken a series of changes to strengthen the team, avoiding further departures. Tondi was in fact one of Aston Martin's targets, but this promotion blinds him.
With the promotion of Tondi, Ferrari aims to enhance internal skills and create a more efficient and competitive technical structure. Tondi's appointment reflects Ferrari's commitment to building a solid and ambitious future, awaiting further changes to be announced in the coming weeks. Vasseur intends to continue strengthening the technical team with the arrival of new key figures, including Loic Serra and Jerome D'Ambrosio, who will start working in Maranello from 1 October. In particular, Loic Serra could take the place of Enrico Cardile as technical director, marking a further step in the restructuring of the team.
This reorganization is seen as a strategy to strengthen the team in view of the upcoming challenges, with the aim of returning to the top of Formula 1. Ferrari is determined to resolve the technical problems that have characterized the current season and to introduce new updates starting from the Zandvoort Grand Prix. Tondi's promotion is only the first step in a broader process of change which should culminate with the announcement of the new technical director. A fundamental figure for the future success of the Prancing Horse.

Diego Tondi's journey at Ferrari
Diego Tondi, who has been at Ferrari since 2007, has progressively climbed the internal hierarchies thanks to his competence and dedication. Starting in the road department, where he worked using CFD and wind tunnel simulation, he moved to the Formula 2008 team in 1 as a wind tunnel test engineer, a role he held for two years. As the years passed, his responsibilities grew. He dedicated much of his work to the aerodynamic development of the CFD of the single-seater's front end, later becoming team leader of a group of 18 people involved in the development of the front of the car.
In 2018, Tondi was promoted to figure of reference for the concept of the new single-seaters. While in 2020 he took on the role of head of aerodynamics. In January 2021, he was appointed head of aerodynamic development, a position he held until his recent promotion to head of aerodynamics for the entire team.
