Charles Leclerc ended qualifying for the Imola GP in fourth position, expressing disappointment with the result. He finds out his statements and how a penalty could affect the starting grid.
On a weekend in which Ferrari presents the long-awaited package of updates, perhaps more was expected from Charles Leclerc, which closed the qualifying for the Imola GP in fourth position.
After a Q1 with medium tires in which both reds managed to maintain the pace of the group, and a Q2 with red tires and with an excellent lap from the driver which gave rise to hopes of a pole position, Leclerc failed to finish his Q3 lap in the top three. The Monegasque driver was disappointed in the his statements to Sky's microphones:
"Dapart from me and Carlos we were very close and we don't really understand what we missed. Tire preparation is still important, but in the end we tried many things. We always struggle in the same corners, 2 and 3. It's strange, it's a trend that has been going on for some races and we need to improve on this. Red Bull's strong point is being able to ride on curbs."
Qualifying, Leclerc's strong point in recent years, is not bringing the desired results, and the Monegasque, used to being a poleman, would like to achieve more, especially with a car, the SF-24, which shows excellent performance in the race.
An impeding maneuver on Kevin Magnussen during Q1 by Oscar Piastri it could allow Leclerc to enter the top 3 for the start of the Imola GP and give 4th place to Carlos Sainz, if the 3 place grid penalty for the Australian were to be confirmed. This could ease the chances of a podium result in the first home race of the 2024 season.
