Sometimes, all it takes is a spark to light a fire. For Charles Leclerc, that fire was lit at Austin, where he achieved an unexpected victory that lifted the spirits of Ferrari and its fans. The Monegasque showed up at the Mexican Grand Prix full of confidence, ready to take advantage of the positive moment of the Maranello team. Dressed as a mariachi and welcomed with enthusiasm by the local crowd, Charles Leclerc spoke about what happened in Texas, his ambition for the race in Mexico and a future that could still reserve great surprises.
Charles Leclerc: “Ferrari strong, aiming for victory in Mexico”
Coming off a triumph in Austin that left its mark, Leclerc said he was optimistic for the Mexican GP, albeit with his usual caution. Interviewed by Mara Sangiorgio during the Pit Walk, he spoke about the prospects for the weekend: "It's early to understand the chances we have here, I haven't done a lap yet, but the characteristics of the track seem positive for us. The only goal we can have here after Austin is to try to win, but after free practice we'll see the prospects and hopefully we won't have to change them".
Leclerc knows well that the victory in Austin was the result of a perfect balance between strategy, race pace and precision in managing the tyres. Elements that Ferrari will have to repeat to aim for an encore on a track, that of the Autodromo Hermanos Rodríguez, which looks favourable.
The Jet Experience and the Documentary
Not just Formula 1. Leclerc also spoke about the incredible experience aboard a fighter jet, documented by Canal+, which will be broadcast in early November. “It was incredible,” Leclerc said, “because it’s something I’ve always dreamed of doing. I had the opportunity to pilot it without risks and push myself beyond my limits. On the second day I reached 8,5 G and it was an incredible feeling.” An extreme challenge, although very different from his usual days at the wheel of a Ferrari single-seater.
This aerial adventure not only entertained the Monegasque, but also added a new chapter to his growing popularity, demonstrating once again his ability to take on challenges outside the runway.
Commentary on the duel between Norris and Verstappen in Austin
During the press conference on Thursday, Leclerc could not avoid addressing the hot topic of the week: the duel between Verstappen and Norris, which culminated with the penalty for the Englishman. Leclerc expressed his point of view on the matter, underlining the aggressive nature of the Dutch driver: “Max always drives on the limit of the rules, you know, but that’s what makes racing against him exciting. You know he won’t give you any margin or space. In general, though, I think there needs to be clarity from the FIA about what you can and can’t do.”
Leclerc did not spare criticism even of the penalty system, also citing the case of Oscar Piastri, unfairly penalized according to the Monegasque. For Leclerc, the regulation should be applied more consistently to avoid ambiguous situations on the track.
Ferrari and the chase for the Constructors' title
With five races remaining and a 48-point gap to McLaren in the Constructors' Championship, Leclerc knows Ferrari cannot afford to let their guard down.. “We have been consistent in the last few months and have made the most of our performances. In Austin we were the best, but before Texas we were not. We have to continue like this until the end of the season,” explained Leclerc.
The Mexican GP represents an opportunity to confirm the positive moment of the Reds and consolidate their position in the championship. Leclerc is ready to give his all, aware that every point will be crucial in this final sprint. “I will give everything for the Constructors' title,” he promised, charging the team and the fans.
