The pilot Ferrari Charles Leclerc speaks following the wet FP2 of the Japanese GP: “There is still so much to understand and learn.”
Difficult day of testing
Like Carlos, too Charles Leclerc believes there is still work to be done to get closer to the performance of Red Bull. Carlos' victory last week and the distance of only two tenths from the Red Bulls are great signs, but not enough. In fact, it is also necessary to note the substantial uselessness of today's FP2, severely limited by pioggia.
Thus begins theinterview a Leclerc after FP2 of the Japan: "NoWe haven't learned enough from this day, there is still so much to understand and learn. We still have several things to try, but this afternoon we achieved it il third place. Let's hope it doesn't rain tomorrow, so we will have the opportunity to try the things we want to do with a track perhaps in different conditions than those we encountered today. In FP1 we didn't lap too much, the track was dirty, slippery and poorly rubberized, so we didn't learn as much in those conditions with the hard tyres. On the softs we only did a couple of laps. So we toured a little, and we still have several question marks to be answered and sorted out before qualifications of tomorrow".
Leclerc's impressions after FP2 in Japan
The main question mark could concern the single lap performance, for the race to pole position.
In this regard, Leclerc declared: “I will do my best to take advantage of the situation and maybe surprise the others in qualifying. That's the goal, definitely. The important thing is to make sure we are best prepared for tomorrow. And for now I think we lack a bit of pace to fight for pole position, because the Red Bull always look strong, especially Max. I mean, there's still some work to do, but I hope to be one of the pilots able to do a special lap in qualifying of tomorrow".
The memory of Jules Bianchi
Finally Leclerc he spoke again about the helmet that he has used and will use during the weekend of the GP of the Japan. The livery it's the same one that appeared on helmet of our close friend Jules Bianchi in his last season in F1, that of the fatal accident of 2014.
“When I put my helmet on I always only think about what happens on the track, but obviously it was a very important sign for me, this helmet, bringing it here to Suzuka. Before doing it I spoke to Jules' family, with whom we are always in contact, we are very good friends and very close.” With great discretion, the sensitive Monegasque driver therefore asked permission from his friend's family to be able to carry out this gesture. "Jules' parents were very happy indeed that I could wear this helmet right here. I'm really happy to be able to do this. Jules is always here with us, must be remembered. If I'm in F1 today I owe it to him, it's thanks to him.” Jules, in fact, introduced Charles Nicolas Todt, the current manager of the Monegasque driver. “I mean, it's very important for me to wear this helmet right here, and I hope I can have a great weekend wearing this“, concluded Leclerc.
