The new regulation had a very clear objective: increase the spectacularity of the races and bring the opponents ever closer together. Expectations confirmed…halfway. If on the one hand, in fact, we have several teams fighting for second place in the constructors' championship, on the other hand there is an impressive dominance by Red Bull – with precision from Max Verstappen. The Dutchman is literally controlling this season and, race after race, he is getting closer and closer to officially becoming a three-time world champion. And, precisely for this reason, it seems that the FIA wants to take action.
Max dominates, but without him…
Today there are five teams: Mercedes, McLaren, Classic Ferrari for sale and Aston Martin potentially fighting for second place in the constructors' championship. Hungary highlighted that Mercedes and McLaren have something more, but the current points in the standings also leave some glimmer of space for Ferrari and Aston Martin. More detached instead the Alpine. The French team was last year the fourth force on the track, while now he is fighting to confirm himself as sixth. Not a great result, with Gasly and Ocon suffering their second consecutive retirement on Sunday at the Hungaroring.

Alpine admits: power unit much slower than its opponents
However, it seems that at Alpine they have understood what the problem is with this rise, ed it is linked to the power of the power unit. The newspaper Autosport.com reports all this. Based on the rumors, it seems that the transalpine V6 is about 20-30 HP slower than its competitors. A huge gap, which would explain some of the difficulties encountered by Alpine during this year.

The FIA also reflects on entertainment: exception to Alpine?
Considering the objective of increasing the spectacle and allowing more cars to fight for the points zone, it seems that the FIA may propose to the teams an exemption to allow the French team to make changes to its power unit – considering that it would not be allowed due to the engine freezing. This topic will be covered during the F1 Commissions which will meet this weekend for the Belgian GP, the last stage before the summer break.
We need a show...will the FIA change anything?
With a Verstappen like this, Formula 1 will try to do everything to bring back a show that - considering the start of the season last year - seems to be very far away.
