Sainz's future is still uncertain. The Spanish driver on the eve of the race weekend in Canada, clarified that no decision has yet been made. The rumors, in fact, spoke of a contract already signed with Williams and even of an announcement during the week of the race weekend in Spain, scheduled for next week. If the rumors about the signing turned out to be false, Williams' interest is real and it was specified by the Team Principal of the Grove team, James Vowles. The former Mercedes reiterated his interest in the Spaniard, clarifying that Williams will do everything to remain a valid option for Sainz. More news comes from Germany regarding this. According to what was reported by the journalist of the German newspaper Car engine and sport Michael Schmidt, Williams would have offered Carlos Sainz a multi-year contract.
Williams offers a 4-year contract but with option
Compared to last season, in which we saw zero changes, if not for the numerous comings and goings in AlphaTauri, in 2025 we will see a totally different driver grid. One of the most talked about drivers is Carlos Sainz. Ferrari has in fact decided to announce the Spaniard's departure at the beginning of the season, going against the trend of the rest of the teams who are now starting to formalize their line ups. Sainz has not yet chosen his next destination but as the days pass, his future will also emerge.
The options for Carlos Sainz are mainly two: Williams and Audi. In fact, the hypothesis of a move to Mercedes now seems distant, determined to bring the very young Kimi Antonelli to F1. Both choices represent quite a challenge. Williams is slowly building its future under the leadership of James Vowles who is determined to bring the Grove team back to the top of the league. Audi is a real leap into the unknown, it will arrive in Formula 1 from 2026, and although it is a brand of a certain weight, there are many unknowns about the project, perhaps too many to be tied to a long-term contract. Sainz is therefore evaluating these two projects.
Regarding the contract that Williams would have offered to Carlos Sainz Michael Schmidt explained that it is a 4-year contract, but with the option to leave after two years, therefore in 2026 if the plan proposed by Vowles does not materialize.

Schmidt's other market hypotheses
Schmidt he also talked about the transfer of other drivers, in particular regarding the Haas seats, and the second seat in Racing Bulls, after the renewal of Tsunoda. For Haas the most valid option remains that of Oliver Bearman probably combined with Esteban Ocon. There is also talk of Zhou putting a lot of money on the table to stay in Formula 1. As for Racing Bulls, the choice is between Ricciardo or Lawson, with a decision that will probably be made by September given that Lawson's option expires in that period.
