Carlos Sainz's future has taken an unexpected turn. With the arrival of Lewis Hamilton in 2025, the Spanish driver was forced to leave the Ferrari seat, signing a contract with Williams. A choice that brings with it a mix of emotions, between enthusiasm for the new challenge and the regret of leaving a project to which he has dedicated years of commitment.
Sainz: “A Burning Farewell”
Sainz does not hide his disappointment at having to leave Maranello just when the team seems to be getting closer to fighting for the title. “When I arrived at Ferrari in 2021, my goal was clear: I wanted to win a championship,” he confessed to Sky Sports. “We worked hard to bring the team back to the top and to leave right now hurts me. If next year they fight for the drivers’ title, it will be difficult to accept, knowing that I have helped build this team.”
Despite the disappointment, Sainz has chosen to turn the page and embrace the new adventure with Williams, a team that is rebuilding under the guidance of James Vowles. “I’m thrilled to be joining Williams. They’ve believed in me from the very beginning and I can’t wait to give them that back,” he enthused. “I’ll be working alongside Alex Albon to get the team back to where it deserves to be.”
The door for Ferrari remains open
But there is one detail that has made fans prick up their ears: Sainz does not rule out a return to Maranello in the future. “Never say never in Formula 1,” he said with an enigmatic smile. “I have always tried to leave teams with good relationships and in favorable positions. For now I am focused on Williams, but in four, six or even ten years, who knows… The door to Ferrari will remain open.”
A comment that has already fired the imagination of fans, especially considering that his replacement, Lewis Hamilton, will be 39 when he takes the wheel of the Reds. Could this be the prelude to a Kimi Raikkonen-style return? Sainz does not rule it out, keeping alive the hope of those who have always seen him as a key figure in the Scuderia's rebirth.
A new challenge, but the past is not forgotten
Carlos Sainz looks to the future, but does not forget the path he took with Ferrari. Six pole positions and four victories, including the latest success in the Mexico City Grand Prix, are the symbol of a driver who has given everything for the Prancing Horse. “I want to bring the experience accumulated in these years to Maranello to help Williams grow. It will be a tough challenge, but I am ready,” he said with conviction.
Despite his move to Williams, Sainz's heart still seems to beat for the Reds, leaving open the possibility of a sensational return. And in Formula 1, as he himself said, never say never.
