2026, in addition to the new regulations recently made official, will be an important year for one team in particular. The current Sauber will be completely replaced by a car manufacturer that has acquired the brand: Audi. The German company has already moved on the market to form its line-up, going fishing Nico Hulkenberg.
Audi is looking for second driver: Lawson possible candidate
One pilot, however, is not enough. We need a partner to work alongside the one who is still a Haas driver today. There was a lot of speculation about who should have arrived. There was even talk of a shock return on the part of Sebastian Vettel. All rumors, because the four-ringed mark had others goals.
The initial ideas had fallen back on the two Alpine pilots. The most desired choice was Pierre Gasly, which however it seems close to renovation, as implied by the new special consultant of the French team Flavio Briatore. Veering up Esteban Ocon things seemed simpler, but the winner of the 2021 Hungarian GP now seems promised Haas.
In fact, the pressure from the Team Principal is very strong Ayao Komatsu who strongly wants him on his team. The one who is taking care of Audi's F1 operations, Andreas Seidl, former McLaren Team Principal, tried the lunge for Yuki tsunoda. However, the Japanese player was removed from any transfer negotiations thanks to the renewal that was then accepted.
The final choice would therefore fall on Liam Lawson., talent of Red Bull driver academy. The New Zealander has one in his contract clause which would allow him to disengage from the team in case you don't get a seat by September.
If the Milton Keynes team decided to give the VCARB seat to Lawson, Seidl would practically be there forced to confirm one of its two pilots. The last seat available at Audi could therefore go into the hands of Guanyu-Zhou or Valtteri Bottas.
