Aston Martin failed to replicate the enthusiasm it had in the opening races of last year's championship. The team in Bahrain and others Jeddah he found himself fighting in the center of the grid, far from Red Bull, Ferrari and the podium. However, in this context of ups and downs, the paddock's attention was focused on a possible turning point for the English team captained by Lawrence Stroll. This turning point is about Aramco's interest in acquiring the Aston Martin team. A perspective that fits with the ambitions of the team and which could offer them the possibility of a new beginning, with access to additional financial resources and the opportunity to renew their strategy to reach new goals. And when we talk about money, we know, many opportunities open up, such as bringing names of the caliber of Max Verstappen and Adrian Newey into the team.
Aramco's plan and the possible arrival of Verstappen
Despite the initial difficulties, the team has already shown last year that it aims high, with the aim of fighting for victories and titles in the world championship. When talking about such big goals you need to have a long-range vision and it is precisely this that led Lawrence Stroll to open up to other partners. The first step was taken in November, with the sale of an initial minority stake to Partner Arctos, a private equity firm based in the United States. Then came the announcement of Aramco as the team's title sponsor in January. A strategic partnership in view of the new 2026 regulation on Power Units with 100% sustainable fuels. An area in which Aramco will work together with Honda, which will become Aston Martin's power unit supplier in just a couple of seasons.
But Aramco could aspire to much more. The expansionist aim of the Saudi state and the oil giant could in fact be reconciled with the acquisition of Aston Martin. An acquisition that would become even more attractive if there were also names like Verstappen and Newey on the table.
Although Red Bull continues to dominate on the track, in fact, there is still some uncertainty about the future of the various pillars of the team, due to the continuous disagreements over the Horner case. Being the reigning champions, the opponents are very curious to know the epilogue of this internal crisis. And one of the most interested teams is Aston Martin who, with Honda's presence, knows they can play an important card.
