A good response was needed and it definitely arrived. Last week, the Ferrari greeted his Grand Prix at home – in Monza – with a third and fourth place. A result that once again made it clear that Ferrari can have its say on typical motor racing tracks (see Belgium). For Sainz the podium of Monza is the first of a rather particular season. The Spaniard took home a podium as a result a long tussle with Leclerc, proving – not that it was needed considering the entire weekend – that he deserved it 100%.
Sainz goes against the grain: "I have performed better in my career"
When Monza calls, Ferrari must answer. This time, the phone that called the Autodromo had the prefix “+34”, precisely Spain. Sainz, in fact, had understood since Friday that Monza could really be his weekend. The pole achieved on Saturday gives a clear idea of the feeling that the #55 on the grid was able to boast with his SF-23. Victory was clearly missing, but it is fair to recognize that at Red Bull they are in another category, at least for this season. Despite the incredible performance, Sainz does not believe that Monza was the best performance of his career"I'm not sure about the one in Monza – admitted the Spaniard – it was my best performance since I've been in Formula 1. I think I've had other great weekends over the years, some where I tried to extract the most from the car I was driving, only that being in the center of the group I wasn't noticed so much".
“After Monza I know what we have to work on”
Even though he wasn't the best Sainz ever, the Spaniard admits that he has never been seen like this since he joined Ferrari"If I think about this year's progress, Monza was undoubtedly my best performance...maybe even the best since I joined Ferrari. I felt confident from the start of the weekend, in feeling with the car, lap after lap. I felt at home: I could put everything together and push to do excellent laps which allowed me to take pole. A different story, however, for the race which he once again demonstrated where we have to work and where I will focus my attention together with the team. We will work on tire management and our race pace".
