La McLaren from the terrible start to the season in Bahrain, has shown a great improvement, especially in Australia, up to his first podium of the season with Lando Norris al Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix even if the result, in part, of a good dose of luck. According to the team principal Andreas Seidl however, the team has not entirely put its problems aside, adding that we could see the car again during the season papaya in difficulty.
Seidl although he is happy with how the car responds even on different track configurations, he prefers to remain cautious since there are other teams like Alfa Romeo, Haas which proved to be competitive, also helped by the misstep of the Mercedes, forced to fight in midfield especially with Lewis Hamilton.
“I think from what we've seen from Melbourne a Imola, the car is working in all kinds of conditions and also with different track layouts, which is very positive.”he said Seidl.
“But, at the same time, if you look at the field where it's very close between the Mercedes, we, Valtteri [Bottas] e Kevin [Magnussen], there is no solace in what we are seeing over the last few weekends" He added.
"I'm never too confident because I know that the cars, let alone the teams, aren't stationary in the paddock, but they are confident that we have a car and package that is capable, any weekend right now, of fighting for Q3 and good points in the race. AND this – underlined the German – goes hand in hand with a strong team and two strong riders”.
No one, therefore, yet has a real picture of the competitive order in midfield this season, especially with the issue reliability which still plays a fundamental role in these first races.
Great trust in the team
The team principal of McLaren he nonetheless complimented the work done recently by his team, who have welcomed and addressed the problems after the difficult start to the season.
“It's not just about lap performance,” he has declared. “It's also about putting the weekends together and I really give a big thumbs up to the team on how everyone has managed to Imola despite some challenges like not doing many laps in FP2."
"It was great for me to see how the team was coping with the challenge of the race weekend in Bahrain, and how everyone stayed calm and united and just kept their heads down and continued to work together as a team through it all. That was the first real test of everything we had put in place in the last three years where the sun was always shining. So I'm very happy with that, and also very happy to know that we have a plan to bring more performance to the car in the coming weeks and months." he concluded Seidl.
The home of a young talent
From McLaren above all there is the desire to go back to being the “property” of a champion, to give a competitive single-seater to his drivers but above all to one, the youngest, chosen by the team papaya to be the future of the team: Lando Norris, who archived his first podium of the season at Imola.
“Since Bahrain we understood the car a little better, we worked on the weak points and made some improvements. There are many positives and I think we are third in the balance of power” the British driver, who recently signed a new long-term deal with the company, told Speed Week McLaren.
Talent often comes out even when you have an uncompetitive single-seater, as we said about Leclerc, we said that of Russell that just from the difficulties in Williams is now benefiting from one particular boost compared to his teammate. According to Helmut Marko, super consultant Red Bull, Norris he is the only pilot suitable to duel with Verstappen e Leclerc, however, in case he was given a car to be able to approach the magnificent performance of Ferrari e Red Bull.
