Spain at the center of the world, or at least, of Formula 1. This week, in fact, at IFEMA, it was announced the new Grand Prix that Formula 1 will contest in Madrid, in Spain, starting from 2026. A choice you have separate and not least the fans: on the one hand there are those who appreciated F1's decision to choose a stage like the capital of Spain, on the other hand there are those who are not convinced that relying on another city circuit could be a good choice. In the end, as has always happened in a sport like Formula 1, the track will do the talking. However, in addition to the announcement of the Madrid GP, what is causing a stir are also the hypotheses that this arrival could entail a farewell from Barcelona (whose contract expires in 2026).
Domenicali clear: “There will be no farewell to Barcelona after the Madrid GP”
The CEO of the company, who spoke during the presentation of the GP at IFEMA in the Spanish capital, shed light on the issue F1 Stefano Sundays"I want to say one thing right away to avoid misunderstandings. Run here (in Madrid, ed.) It certainly doesn't mean that we couldn't do it in Barcelona too. There are still many discussions underway with the organizers of Barcelona to see how the agreement, which is currently stuck until 2026, can be extended. However, I can guarantee – Domenicali continued to explain – and we are open to any type of negotiation, as we also boast an excellent relationship with all parties involved".

Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that from 2026 the Formula 1 calendar - as currently happens for example with Italy - can choose and prefer to have 2 Grands Prix in Spain: the first in Barcelona, in the classic Montmeló and the second in Madrid (city themed). Everything will still be discovered, as the final decision will depend on the hypothetical renewal of Barcelona which, at the moment, does not seem to be such a remote hypothesis.
