THE TIRES ON THE TRACK
For the absolute debut of the eagerly awaited street circuit of Miami, Pirelli chose the three central compounds of the range: C2 like P Zero White hard, C3 such as P Zero Yellow medium e C4 such as P Zero Red soft. This is also the most used nomination during the season as well as the most versatile one.
Il Miami International Autodrome, 5,41 kilometers long, develops around theHard Rock Stadium Complex in Miami Gardens – the house of the Miami Dolphins – and features 19 curves, three straights, gradients and a chicane. The maximum speeds foreseen should reach 320 km/h with an average of around 223 km/h and the pilots with the gas open for around 58% of the lap. Turns 11 and 17 constitute the two main overtaking opportunities, with three DRS zones.
As the eleventh venue to host a grand prix in the United States it's an absolute novelty for everyone, Pirelli had to rely on simulation data to choose the compound nomination. The information you hold Pirelli indicate that the central compounds of the range will be the most suitable for tackling the 57 laps of the race, with a smooth asphalt that offers good grip and average forces at work on the tyres.
The brand new asphalt is likely to lead to a high degree of track evolution, especially at the start of the weekend, with the Porsche Challenge , WSeries as support events. The weather can be unpredictable - this time of year the air temperatures hover in the 20's but there's a fairly high risk of rain and wind on the Florida coast.
Mario isola
“There is a lot of anticipation for the first one Miami Grand Prix, which presents a track in some ways similar to that of Jeddah, although there are some parts that are slower and more technical than the dell track'Saudi Arabia: in particular the section between turns 11 and 16. The rest of the track, which runs counter-clockwise, is very fast and puts the tires mounted on the right-hand side of the car to the test above all. We are expecting the usual fast track evolution and a smooth surface with the new tarmac, but the track has been high pressure water jet washed so should offer a good level of grip from the outset. As this is a fast track, the cars are likely to use a low to medium downforce set-up and this could generate some sliding in the high speed corners, particularly if the hard compounds are used. When we have to tackle a new track, our choice always tends to be a little cautious, so it will be interesting to compare the simulations with the real data we get".
