The political situation in Formula 1 forces many rapid changes following one after the other. In Texas morning, Italian afternoon, a press conference by Oracle Red Bull was scheduled Racing. The team, through the speakerphone of its team principal, Christian Horner, should have explained its version of the violation of the Budget cap that the Milton Keynes team performed according to the findings of the FIA. This press conference was canceled because, according to many sources, it was linked to a meeting between Horner and the president of the FIA, Mohamed Ben Sulayem.
Horner says no to plea deal
In particular, the voice of one had made its way among the insiders settlement proposal between the Federation and the team of the famous energy drink. Solution that would have seen an agreement with a reduction in the Budget cap for 2023 or limitations in the possibility of carrying out tests. Horner does not seem to like this road, because there would be a public admission of guilt by the team, which would keep the victory of the championship in 2021 but would stain her with an extremely heavy fault. Still, a plea deal remains Horner's best option. In fact, the risk of a reduction of points and much more serious sanctions would be avoided in the event that the matter were to reach the commission of independent specialists established by the FIA.
The plea agreement is, wanting to force a comparison with a different case, what Ferrari did with the FIA for the events related to the power unit used by the Prancing Horse team during the 2019 season.
There is tension in the air and the conference slips
In the meantime, rumors of an extreme are leaking from Holland frost between Ben Sulayem and Horner, with the Emirati who has not yet granted a hearing to the Red Bull TP to discuss the matter. This growing tension could lead to a much slower and more problematic resolution of the violation. As usual, it will be necessary to wait for the technical and discussion times to obtain the result. The press conference, if it is ever reconvened, could be the moment for Horner to declare how much the infraction actually amounts to – estimated under 2 million – and how they intend to proceed with the FIA.
As often happened, therefore, it's just a matter of waiting.
