It was a start to the week, without Formula One, full of great news. In fact, the F1 Commission was held in London full of discussions and twists and turns, especially on the Sprint theme but not only.
Target 23 races
Formula One is therefore projected, rightly so, towards the future, without however forgetting the current season. In fact, there are 22 races scheduled in the calendar, following the elimination of the Russian GP in Sochi. After the cancellation, Liberty Media's idea is clearly to close the 2022 season with 23 races.
Between Qatar and Singapore
To do this, it is necessary to understand which state is ready to host the race weekend. Initially there was insistent talk of Qatar. The stop in Losail had not been considered for this season, as the country is close to hosting the soccer World Cup in November (which is why the F1 season ends on 20 November). Discarded this hypothesis again, Liberty Media has not ruled out the possibility of a brace in Singapore. The GP is scheduled from 30 September to 2 October and the one-two, which would have taken place the week before, also seemed to be useful for the teams.
Tick Portimao
In the last few hours, however, the opportunity to return to Portimao has become fashionable again. The circuit that hosted F1 in both 2020 and 2021, at the time of the Covid emergency. The track was found to be very modern and thrilled the drivers. Even at an organizational level, it wouldn't be a heavy trip for the teams who would have a seventh time to fly from Italy, home of the last GP, to Portugal. However, the situation is still stalled and under study. Portimao advances and hopes, but the last word has not yet been said.
