After the world championship concluded in Suzuka, there is already another theme that is taking over, and will take over, for the next few weeks. The issue is clearly dedicated to the budget cap. During the week, to be precise Monday, the FIA has confirmed through its investigation that Red Bull has exceeded, in 2021, the maximum expenditure ceiling of 145 million by 5%.
The possible penalty
After this communication, the paddock clearly ignited. The rumors born in Singapore were therefore confirmed. Naturally, the question everyone is asking is: as sanction is it up to Red Bull? The options are varied. The most likely seems to be the reprimand. However, in order to arrive at this solution, in which perhaps only the Austrian team would emerge victorious (and not F1 or the FIA), Red Bull must publicly admit that it has violated the budget cap.
Red Bull, we need to take a step back
The goal is therefore to arrive at a clear plea bargain, though Red Bull does not seem to be very convinced of the FIA decision. "We are surprised and disappointed by this decision, but we are ready to evaluate all options” – reads the statement of the Milton Keynes stables which however does not seem willing to make any reverse direction Federation.
Ferrari and Mercedes spectators present
However, the situation is very complicated. Whatever happens, a precedent will be created and, if it were only a simple fine, as also stated by the Corriere dello Sport, Ferrari and Mercedes will not stand idly by.
“If Red Bull had overstated by two million, it could close the matter by paying the FIA five times, therefore ten million. And in any case it would not be fair because it would sanction the right to cheat by paying a pardon. They have already talked about it in Mercedes and, if this were really the point of collapse, the Star is ready to program extra budget and related fine to recover performance and return to the top".
