It was an amazing weekend that was not but it ended in the best way. Monza Grand Prix closes with victory by Max Verstappen who snatches yet another success in front of the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc and the Mercedes of George Russell. What causes discussion, however, is not the result, but the ways in which the race ended.
Binotto: "The FIA slept today"
With eight laps to go, Ricciardo's McLaren stops due to a problem. Choosing the Federation is very clear: Safety Car immediately. The problem is with timing. which forced the riders to finish the race under safety conditions. For this very reason, at home Ferrari, the words of the team principal were not lacking Mattia binotto:
"False race? That can't be said, we don't know how it would have ended. But it's a pity. After Abu Dhabi there was a lot of talk about how to speed up operations and try to restart the race as soon as possible and the conditions were there today. Even if they let it in ahead of Russell we don't understand why at that point they waited so long for the cars to pass that were between the safety car and the lead car, which was Max's. reason to wait. The only one is safety, but there is a minimum time in the regulation that the cars must respect so as not to go too fast and always run in safe conditions. Today was a real sleep on the part of the FIA. They have changed a lot, but to date they are still not up to the task of this type of operation“.
