It is certainly not an easy season finale for the Ferrari. The latest performances of the Ducati did not satisfy and, considering the F1-75 seen at the beginning of the season, the descent was quite unexpected. From the fight in the world championship, Ferrari has moved on to the one with Mercedes for second place in the constructors' championship. Since the French GP, the Maranello team has no longer found the solution to problems of a technical nature, perhaps also exacerbated by the technical directive on porpoising. TD39, and it was necessary to intervene on performance to avoid withdrawals due to problems as much as possible reliability. Not that they were the only ones in a season, in which very often the figure of the team principal Mattia Binotto has been questioned, held primarily responsible for the errors of the Wall or the mismanagement of pilots.
In Mexico it was race no
The race of Mexico was, together with that of Belgium, Ferrari's worst performance of the season. The Reds never had the pace to be able to fight with the other two top teams. Mercedes e Red Bull, since the third free practice session, had shown that they had more pace than Ferrari, which in a certain sense tried to reduce the gap. During the third session, the team had in fact mounted a lighter wing on the two single-seaters in the hope of recovering something in terms of performance. A solution that did not bear the desired results: in fact, for qualifying Ferrari preferred to go back to the configuration already assembled on Friday, which did not give excellent results.
Binotto explains: "Mercedes is developing, we have stopped"
But what is responsible for this drastic drop in Ferrari performance? According to what he says Mattia Binotto the situation is clear: the Reds has stopped developments, while Red Bull and Mercedes have not stopped. And the budget cap? Binotto answered these questions as follows:
"Mercedes is coming back up. They developed and spent more than us, who instead stopped relatively early to focus on the 2023 project. I'm not too worried about their rate of development, because I know we've stopped. Surely there would be potential to be mined, but there wasn't the budget cap to do it".
