With the close of the season, you know, there is never a lack of controversy. And, in this case, in the spotlight is the FIA. For the Federation it was certainly not an easy year, on the contrary: mistakes were not lacking and the goal will certainly be to find the solution to prevent them from happening again.
Ben Sulayem: "We learned a lot"
The most difficult moment of managing the FIA undoubtedly concerns the situation budget cap. The Red Bull in fact has breached the maximum spending limit of the 2021 season and it was punished by the FIA with a fine of 7 million dollars and aa 10% decrease in wind tunnel time. On the matter, which caused quite a stir, he spoke to the microphones of Motorsport.com President Ben Sulayem:
“We have learned a lot and are undergoing a thorough review. Who knew in the first year what the result might be? We didn't expect it either. If you look at the other teams, they will tell you that we were light on them. And the penalty? Some want them hanged and want to see blood. And the offending teams themselves see it as a huge thing for them. So where does the question lie?”
“We will continue to grow”
An issue that made the paddock discuss and inflame, but which was very important for Ben Sulayem to understand where and what to work on.
“The only thing I would like to say is that what we did in September/October should be done sooner. But being the first year, we learned a lot. And we are still learning. So it's best to intervene in May, not October. For the Financial Regulation it was the first year; it is very difficult to control it. That's why we also discussed the employees: three more in the financial part, three more in the chassis and PU. So other recruitments are expected. If you don't have the manpower and the right people to check, what is this regulation for? I think there was a balance between finance and sporting sanctions."
