The new year has just begun, and the world of Formula 1 is already starting to launch extremely interesting news. Among all, the one that causes the most sensation is linked to a tweet of the President of the FIA, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, where the Emir announces that he has given a mandate to the FIA team of start the process expression of interest for new teams in Formula 1. This tweet comes after the many controversies that have emerged over the possibility of entry of new teams, such as AndrettiGlobal, the organization headed by Andretti Autosport.
Andretti has interests in many series, racing mainly in the NTT IndyCar Series but ranging in INDY NXT, Formula E, Extreme E (in collaboration with Zak Brown's United Autosport), Supercars (always with United Autosport) and from 2023 also in IMSA (in partnership with Wayne Taylor Racing).
Michael Andretti, driver for McLaren in 1993 and son of world champion Mario, had immediately pushed to be able to enter Formula 1, starting work on a new strategic basis in Indiana of over 53.000 square meters and signing a pre-agreement with Renault for the supply of engines. In addition to the application to be able to participate, Andretti had tried to gather support in the paddock, however only receiving the support of Zak Brown. Others, like Toto wolff, said they were against the entry of new teams because “a new entry should be to everyone's benefit”.
Now, with this opening from Ben Sulayem, it seems that Mario and Michael Andretti's dream has one more chance to come true. It would also be a gain Colton herta, top driver in IndyCar who had been considered for the AlphaTauri seat went to Nyck de Vries. Unfortunately, Herta didn't accumulate enough points for the superlicence, forcing him to delay his eventual debut. We will see how the FIA will proceed for the entry of new teams, and if Andretti will be among them, in the coming months.
