The first race of the season, in Bahrain, ended where we left off in 2022. Red Bull dominates and does so with Max Verstappen who closes in front of his teammate Sergio Perez. Third an extraordinary one Fernando Alonso on an Aston Martin that flies and has no intention of stopping.
Already from the tests it was understood that the AM523 was a completely different car compared to last year's one. They worked hard at Silverstone, resulting in a car that is: “95% different than that of 2022”. An incredible percentage, which further enhances the work done by Lawrence Stroll's team who made his debut during the first GP of the season with the statement: "You haven't seen anything yet".
There is no doubt that the Aston is one of the strongest cars on the track. The Silverstone team has given rise to a new project, very similar to Red Bull.
Three Red Bull on the podium
Christian Horner, team principal of the Milton Keynes team, had a lot of fun in the post-GP of Bahrain teasing the new Aston car: "I don't regret letting Dan Fallows go, because we have a wonderful team,” Horner continued. “Everything must evolve, nothing stays still. And I believe it is flattering to see the similarity that the AMR23 has with our single-seater. It was good to see all three of those cars on the podium".
"I think Horner continued. that what Aston Martin has done over the winter demonstrates to all the teams that it is possible to make a big leap in quality. They've obviously done a great job over the past few months and imitation is said to be the greatest form of flattery and it's great to see an old Red Bull doing so well!”
Sergio Perez also commented on Fernando's podium without going around too much: “It's nice to see three Red Bulls on the podium“. Who knows if the "green" will succeed in the impossible for many at the moment, to beat Red Bull.
