A week's break to reflect and take stock of the situation. This is the strategy used by Alpine, following the first three races of the season in which the strength of the French team was highlighted, but also the too many reliability problems.
A start… positive but not entirely
Esteban Ocon comes out with his head held high for now from this start of the season. The French rider has always finished in the top ten, bringing home very important points both for him and for the team. Fernando Alonso, on the other hand, is in a bit more difficulty, undoubtedly also quite unlucky. In fact, the Spaniard has already mounted the third power unit on his single-seater and, with another twenty races available, the fear of incurring penalties is always very high.
Szafnauer: "We are ready for updates"
To sum up Alpine's start to the season, one could therefore say: good but not very good. We can and must improve and, to do so, the French team already has updates in mind for Imola. This was communicated by team principal Omar Szafnauer: “We will bring some updates to Imola, that's for sure. I wouldn't be surprised if everyone brings updates to Imola. In my 25 years of activity, for whatever reason, in the first European races the teams planned to bring the first updates".
“Aero Updates”
Therefore, news is expected for the French team, with the new components that will be dedicated to one aspect, the aerodynamic one:“Before it happened in Barcelona, now it happens in Imola. It is also a numerical question. It's the fourth race. So around the fourth/fifth race everyone brings news. We will also bring some things. They will all be components dedicated to aerodynamics. It is one of the components –commented the team principal- which makes the biggest difference. This is one of the pieces that is changing. It should be a significant update”.
Ocon-Alonso, is it worth the bet?
Statements from Omar Szafnauer that bode well for Alpine and its fans. Dear fantasy managers, be careful: the French team wants to keep pushing and aiming for Imola on Alonso (listed at 22), but above all on the constant Ocon (listed at 14), could be the best solution. The Spaniard wants to make up for it after Australia, while the French is synonymous with guarantee and above all with points.
