It's not an easy situation at home Alpha Tauri. The Faenza team he hoped for growth after the disappointing 2022, and instead even the beginning of 2023 should be forgotten for now.
AlphaTauri, a very difficult start
Since the arrival of the new regulations, the Alphatauri has always had great difficulty. In fact, last season the team finished in penultimate place in the constructors' standings, despite the excellent line-up made up of Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda. In 2023, the French (went into Alpine) was replaced by Nyck De Vries. The start of the Formula E champion was certainly not to be framed. but this is also related to the fact that we are talking about his real first experience as a pilot in Formula 1. Element not to be underestimated. It was a complicated start for Yuki too, testifying even more to the difficulties of a car that she can't push.
Air of change
We will have to work hard in Faenza, even if the environment does not seem to be the best. For months, in fact, there have been rumors of a possible sale of AlphaTauri designed by the Red Bull top management, at the same time denied by a official announcement (although Marko has never closed on the possibility). In recent days, the new head of marketing has also been announced, namely Lars Stegelman, who will take care of the commercial department to try to increase the revenue of the team. Stegelmann has an important curriculum, as in 2022 he occupied the role of Chief Commercial Officer of ITR GmbH, worked for Motorsport Network and in Formula E, always covering the area dedicated to marketing.
Tost close to goodbye?
That doesn't seem to be the only change though. In fact, it seems that the same team principal Franz Tost is reflecting on his role. The basic element, in addition to the car's performance, is its performance age. Tost is 67 years old and, as he himself admitted, he has no intention of continuing for much longer: “Before I turn 70 I will go back to Austria to ski. I haven't skied for three years because I don't have the time since, in the period of February and March, I'm busy working. But I'll be back soon."
