The closing of a circle has been expected for some time and has finally arrived. The line-up for next season is becoming more and more outlined, with AlphaTauri officially communicating who will take over from Pierre Gasly announced byAlpine late at night.
De Vries in AlphaTauri: it's official
After several months of hunting for a replacement for French, with the name of Colton Herta skipped due to the superlicense, the AlphaTauri has communique that Nyck De Vries will be Yuki Tsunoda's next teammate starting in 2023. The Canadian sod therefore takes the place of Pierre Gasly, who officially went in Alpine with a multi-year contract. For De Vries this is his first official seat for an entire Formula One season. but it won't be the first time behind the wheel of an F1 car. The former champion of Formula E indeed replaced Albon in the Grand Prix of Italy and finished in ninth place. It was precisely this performance that convinced Helmut Marko that he then decided to meet De Vries offering him the seat for 2023.
De Vries: "F1 has always been my dream"
With the official announcement, they are clearly not lacking the declarations of De Vries who thus commented on his arrival in AlphaTauri. “I am extremely excited to be joining Scuderia AlphaTauri for 2023 and want to thank both Red Bull and the team for giving me the opportunity to drive in F1. – said the twenty-seven year old.
“After Formula 2, I took a slightly different path with motorsport, but F1 has always been my dream and I am grateful to be able to achieve it. I've had plenty of chances to test the 2022 car this year and I think this has put me in a great position for next season, I hope this has helped me prepare for what's to come. Having spent most of my adolescence in Italy for karting, I have always felt at home there, so for me it's nice to join an Italian team, which already has a real family atmosphere, and I can't wait to meet everyone and to start building our relationship before next season”.
Tost: "New chapter with Nyck"
Beyond De Vries, we report the words by the AlphaTauri Fanz Tost team principal who thanked Gasly for the years spent together in which the Frenchman also achieved a victory at Monza.
“We are now delighted to start a new chapter with Nyck, who is very welcome at Scuderia AlphaTauri.
