Fernando Alonso, in this season of Formula 1, proved to be very consistent overall, both in qualifying and then in the race on Sunday. Much was expected fromAston Martin, which brought several for its owner's home grand prix updates. But then, the rain and the red flag came upset the plans of the British team.
"It could have been worse"
Le Montreal qualifications they closed with an unusual top 3, made up of Verstappen, Hulkenberg e Alonso. Nico Hulkenberg's first appearance, in the front row, aboard one Haas that's what's surprising when you look at the results of the qualification itself. The Spaniard would eventually start second, following the three-place penalty given to Hulkenberg.
The track conditions, the pouring rain and subsequently the Red flag caused by Oscar Piastri were determining factors. Most sadunato was Fernando Alonso, number #14 was about to cross the finish line when the red flag was displayed. A fantastic ride, with a fuchsia in the second sector which could have materialized in a time not far from that of poleman Verstappen.
Fernando confesses: “podium goal”
When interviewed, the Asturian says – “I'd like to get on the podium, we missed him in Barcelona and we hope to redeem ourselves“. Continuing about Hulkenberg he says – “ The race pace of the Haas is weak, we try to overtake it at the start of the race so as not to lose the distance from Max".
