Ferrari now has deciso. Frederic Vasseur will be the new team principal of red stable for next season. The French engineer will take the place of Mattia Binotto resigned. The announcement hasn't come yet, but today a fundamental step took place that will allow Vasseur to land in Maranello in the next few hours.
The announcement of Alfa Romeo
In fact, through an official press release, Alfa Romeo has announced that Vasseur will leave the team at the end of the year. A very important chapter closes for Vasseur who has been at the head of Alfa since 12 July 2017. Below is the note from the team.
“Frédéric Vasseur, Team Principal of Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN and CEO of Sauber Motorsport, will leave the company in January 2023, after six successful seasons at the helm of the team. The announcement marks the latest chapter in a journey of personal and professional growth for both the team and the man, a journey that ends with Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN clinching its best result in the constructors' championship in Formula One in a decade with sixth place in the 2022 season”.
Vasserur: “Always grateful to this team”
To say goodbye to the team, there was no shortage the words of Vasseur himself who claimed. "As I prepare to wrap up my adventure at Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN, I can look back fondly on these six years together. I owe a debt of gratitude to every single employee on the team, as they are the ones who put everything back together and climbed the ladder in our sport. I am proud of the work we have done collectively as a team and company, and even more proud of the solid foundation we have laid for what comes next. What I'm most proud of are the people who made this possible, who over time became friends. I've learned so much during my time as CEO and Team Principal and I feel like every day has prepared me for what's to come. I know that Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN will continue to go from strength to strength. I look forward to seeing them compete at the business end of the grid over the next few years."
Who instead of Vasseur?
Now the hunt for a possible substitute begins, which does not seem obvious at all. Indeed, it is necessary to take into consideration how much Sauber will want a team principal who will then take up this role also in 2026, when Audi will officially land in Formula 1. With the Vasseur-Ferrari chapter now closed, the one in the Sauber house opens which can offer nice twists.
