The news was a bit in the air, but finally it also became official. Indeed, by the end of 2023, Alfa Romeo and Sauber they will part their ways.
Alfa Rome-Sauber, it's over
This farewell from Alfa Romeo, which is abandoning (at least for now) F1 after returning in 2018, therefore opens the doors to Sauber to be able to sign with Audi. In fact, on Friday, precisely in the morning, the official has arrivedAudi's entry into Formula One starting from 2026, exploiting the new rules concerning the power units. Audi has not yet communicated which team will decide to become the engine supplier, but after the announcement by Alfa, the road seems to be quite smooth. Indeed, according to the latest, Audi should acquire 75% of Sauber, thus definitively entering Formula One starting from 2026.
The press release
The announcement of this choice was made by the Italian team, through a press release son its official site:
“Alfa Romeo announces that the partnership with Sauber Motorsport will end by the end of 2023”.
"Alfa Romeo – reads the note again – had announced his return to F1 with a long-term plan in 2017, and in July 2022 he announced his decision to continue the partnership with Sauber also for 2023, in the light of the promising results achieved in the first part of the season, in terms of sports achievements, marketing and positive collaboration with the team. Since the economic and industrial turnaround of the brand will be achieved in 2022, Alfa Romeo will evaluate among the many opportunities and decide which will be the best one to support the long-term strategy and positioning of the Brand".
